Introducing Renee Brodwin with some Fabulous Travel Tips!

If you are reading this you are most likely living in sunny Florida!  I am so happy to share this information with all of you Sunshine Mamas.

My family & I moved here just 6 months ago from Albany, NY.Of course I do not miss the cold & the snow!

I am a mommy of two: Alice Christina, 4 1/2 years old and Benjamin Johannes, 18 months old.

My husband and the kids really do love it here. Melbourne Beach is such a wonderful location and we love the fact that we can be outside year round.

I have lived in many places but I have to say this truly is paradise.

My topic today is travelling with kids. Since we often travel to Europe (The last time we travelled was to Switzerland in December 2009) I can offer some guidance and tips.

The time difference to Europe is on average minus five hours so the first thing I try to do is to put the kids to bed a bit earlier than usual so they can adjust to the time change faster.

The day before and on the big day I make sure they drink lots of fluids so they will not be dehydrated on the plane.

It is important to bring lots of changes of diapers/wipes and clothes. The kids should preferably wear cotton with layers and the baby is most comfortable in his PJ’s. Always bring a jacket too since sometimes the airlines run out of blankets and it does get cold in the plane.  If you need some tips on how to change a baby on the plane check out this site:

I also bring books and crayons for the older child. A small new present such as a toy or book is always a good idea-this will keep them busy during those last few long and boring hours.

Make sure you always have lots of snacks in the backpack. If the baby needs milk or formula bring enough of that too. They do allow that through customs (other than water.)  Sippy cups with juice are not allowed.

In addition, the kids should wear shoes that can be removed easily and bring a stroller that can be folded quickly.

If you have a long layover find a place where the kids can run around for a while. Also sitting by the window and looking at the planes is always fun. The older child might want to watch a movie on his/her DVD player.

On one of my trips going from Paris to Basle Alice decided to hang out in the buisness section chatting with a buisness traveler.

Hoping that the stewardess would bump us up to buisness class I let her spend some time there.

Of course that did not happen so eventually I got my daughter back to Economy class….

Well, that’s it for today. Next time I’ll be writing about how to incoorperate music in your childs life every day.
