Running Zone Race Series

I completed my first race in the Running Zone Race Series!  The “I Run for Pizza Football Kickoff” was a success!  The plan was to accomplish several 5k races by this time, not just two but hey, life happens.  I am the epitome of the mom who went from the couch to the 5k.  (I just heard this saying for the first time the other day and had to throw it in…so appropriate.)  If you want to get the scoop on my saga please see my blog The Melbourne and Beaches Music Marathon.  In a nut shell, I lost my mother at a young age and I am determined to lead a happy healthy life in which I will be around for my children as long as possible!

I am not one of those naturally thin people.  Not heavy, just somwhere in the middle.  In other words, I LOVE TO EAT!  I’m talking about the good stuff too…doughnuts, pastas, pizza, ice cream.  I’ve learned a little about nutrition and calorie counting and a lot about just doing it.  (Getting my butt off the couch that is.)  One of the easiest ways to take care of myself is to ensure I have plenty of vitamins, sleep, and water.  Next (the not so easy part) I run three to five times a week, at least three miles.  That’s right, I know it sounds like a lot but really it’s a piece of cake once you just start doing it.  It’s a half hour (give or take) each time.

One way to psych myself up to run, especially if I’m not in the mood, is by running one mile, walking a quarter mile, then repeat a time or two.  Another one of my Mama friends runs one minute and then walks one minute.  Either way is great for fat burn!

If I don’t have time for all of that cardio, or can’t break away from the kiddos, I often times check out Exercise T.V. On Demand.  Most cable providers have it.  (You should be able to find it in your Menu on your cable T.V.)  I am hooked on Six Pack Ab Burn and anything by Jillian Michaels.  Exercise T.V. makes it possible to exercise at any level for any amount of time for FREE in the comfort  of your home.

I hope to see some of you Mamas in the next local 5k!!  From the couch to the 5k, baby!

    Lori, I love it!! I too just signed up for a Triathlon. Like what? It’s so motivating. I have great weeks at training and then not. As a mother, I am doing this to be healthy. It’s not about winning, it’s about being healthy. For us, our children, and for life in general!!! You motivated me. I will probably finish my race with the last 30 people…but i will be back!!!!!

  • Thanks Ladies! I never considered myself to be the motivator…I’ll take it!! I really have to give credit to one of my fellow Mamas, Donna. She is the one who made me realize that I CAN do it!! Doing it makes me want to keep doing it…not to mention, I feel great, physically, mentally, and emotionally!

    Triathlon!!!!!!! Sarah, that is awesome!! I’m sure you’re going to do fabulous! I am more than impressed! YOU MOTIVATE ME!! 🙂

    As far as training goes, I’m pretty determined to get a couple more 5ks under my belt in the near future and then the dreaded 10k! (Inspired by my brother-in-law, Jeff, who has lost over 100 lbs.!!) It’s rainy days, like today, that make me want to curl up on the couch and stay in!! We’ll see what I can do in the rain. It’s like you said, Sarah, some days are better than others. I have a 10 minute span in which I finish, 26 to 36 minutes…some days rock, others not so much. It’s all about being healthy and treating your body well! 🙂
