Kids and Summer- out of school for summer break.

1. Make the Most of Local Library Kids’ Programs this Summer

Libraries are often a great source of summer holiday entertainment. The majority hold summer reading programs, which encourage children to read and give you an hour of free entertainment.  After taking part in one of these programs, your kids are more likely to read at home, which can have many short and long-term benefits. In addition to this, your local library is a great free source of videos and music.

2. Keep your Kids Entertained and Healthy this Summer

No matter what the weather is like, keeping your kids entertained through sports programs is the ideal way to beat boredom this summer. Visit your local sports center for child oriented programs when the weather is bad. When the sun is shining, take them swimming, play soccer in the garden, or encourage them to join a little league team. The possibilities for sporting entertainment are endless.

3. Battle Summer Boredom with Arts and Crafts

Arts and crafts is an activity that can be enjoyed anywhere at any time. By stocking up on supplies like paint, paper, cardboard, glitter etc, you will have a summer’s worth of fun ready for your children. Get them engaged in arts and crafts activities by setting up projects, such as making a mural for their bedroom, or a blanket for their tree house. You can encourage siblings to paint, make paper mache, or sketch each other.

4. Camp Your Way Through the Summer Vacation

When it comes to summer vacation, children can get bored easily. One pastime that keeps children of all ages happy is camping. Whether you allow your children to camp out in the back yard with their friends, set up a daytime campsite, or take them camping for a long weekend, they are sure to get more enjoyment out of the summer vacation. This is an activity that can be extended to the whole family; you can incorporate other activities into it, such as nature trails and sports games.

5. Engage your Children in Culture this Summer

No matter where you live, your town is bound to be filled with or located near to cultural activities that will keep your children entertained this summer. From museums that reflect your town’s history, to monuments, most attractions can be used to keep your children entertained. Turn each day out into an activity where they learn and challenge their minds. For example, if you are visiting a museum, give them an activity sheet filled with items they need to search for and give prizes at the end. With a little imagination, days out can be fun.

6. Reconnect with Old Friends to Beat Summer Boredom

One of the main reasons for children becoming bored over the summer is lack of contact with other kids. If you have friends with children who you would like to see more of, the summer vacation is a great time to reconnect with them. By doing this you do not just get time with friends, you also make sure your children build up a new network of friends and stay entertained. Visit each other’s houses, go for days out, and find activities like arts and crafts to do together.

7. Encourage your Children to Enjoy Nature this Summer

When it comes to children’s vacation entertainment, very few activities are as simple or cheap as nature based ones. You can choose to go for a family day out to the zoo or aquarium, or you can take your family on a nature walk. For those days where you do not want to stray too far from home, you can set up garden based activities where they find and draw certain forms of nature. Finally, for rainy days you can purchase books and encourage your children to make posters about their favorite animals and plants.

8. Make Believe Summer Activities that all Children can Enjoy

Keeping children entertained during the summer with very few resources can be tough, but with a little imagination you can have fun anywhere. Make believe activities include setting up shop or playing house. You can always make your activities a little more elaborate by asking them what their favorite book is, and acting it out for fun. Finally, ask them to create their own fantasy world where everyone has a character. Once their imaginations get going, you can have hours of fun.

9. Children’s Summer fun with Outdoor Art

Engaging in arts and crafts is fun at any time, but when you allow your children to go wild with chalks and pastels in the great outdoors, they will have even more fun. Encourage them to draw shadow sketches using chalk outside, or Mary Poppins style pictures. Ask them to decorate a tree with glitter and paints. Finally, encourage them to paint landscapes or create large hand and footprint paintings outdoors.

10. Keep Your Children Entertained and Educated this Summer

As the summer holidays go on, it is natural for children to forget some of the things they learned in school. To prevent this from happening, encourage them to take part in educational activities. This can include reading books, setting up simple (age-appropriate) science experiments; scavenger hunts where they learn as they go, and art sessions. This helps them to learn while having fun at the same time
