Ways to Overcome the Stay at Home Mom Slump

Being a stay at home mom is a rewarding experience in many ways, but over time, it can (and inevitably will) feel a bit monotonous. Fortunately, you can break away from your schedule and your routine in a few simple ways that will leave you feeling refreshed.

Take Up a New Hobby

There’s truth to the statement that if mom isn’t happy, nobody’s happy. For this reason alone, picking up a hobby that belongs solely to you can help boost your happiness and give you some alone time. Whether you want to scrapbook, learn to crochet, or even work on a classic car in your garage for 20 minutes a day, choose something that will temporarily take you away from your stay at home mom role and give you time to focus on the things that you enjoy the most.

Find a Playgroup

As a stay at home mom, it might feel like much of your day consists of laundry, cleaning, and entertaining your kids. A playgroup is a great way to entertain not only your children, but also yourself. It gives you an opportunity to bond with other stay at home moms and dads who may feel just like you do from time to time. To find a playgroup, just ask your friends, or check with your church, library, and community center to learn about groups in your Florida neighborhood.

Get Some Exercise

Stay at home moms are incredibly busy, and it may seem like you rarely have time to actually enjoy the fresh air. If this sounds familiar, consider a jogging stroller. You can take your kids out for a beautiful stroll when the weather is nice, and the fresh air can also help freshen your mind. If you choose to add this to your daily routine, make sure that you choose different locations each time. If it’s a rainy day, head to your local mall instead. Your kids will enjoy the bustling atmosphere, and you can still get your heart pumping.

Plan Things in Advance

Oftentimes, failing to plan your week in advance leaves you feeling like there’s very little time for you to do the things you enjoy. Of course, things can and will come up – especially when you have kids – and there’s not much you can do except go with the flow. However, by preplanning things such as meals, shopping trips, pediatrician appointments, and more, you can make more time for yourself.

Be Spontaneous

A stay at home mom often feels as if sticking to a routine is the most important thing she can do. For example, you might go grocery shopping on Monday, do the laundry on Tuesday, run errands on Wednesday, and clean your house on Thursday and Friday. Stick to the routine too long, though, and you’re sure to fall into a rut that does anything but make you happy. There’s nothing wrong with a little spontaneity, whether you decide to go out for ice cream at two in the afternoon or spend your entire Tuesday in the local children’s museum.

The stay at home mom slump can leave you feeling tired, frustrated, and stressed out. To avoid the slump, be spontaneous, change your routine, and be sure to take some time to yourself. These things will help you feel better, and in turn, folding laundry for the week won’t seem like such a monotonous task.
