Our first featured recipe is supplied by Sara. This is a fairly quick and simple turkey chili recipe. The taste and flavor is so good, the kids won’t even know it’s healthy for them. Thanks Sara!

Mama’s Easy Chili

Look no further for the ultimate classic, easy chili recipe. Make in a crock pot for simple weekday meals that can last a few days.

1 1/2 pounds lean ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 (16-ounce) cans red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
2 (14-1/2-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 cups water

Cook first 4 ingredients in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until turkey crumbles and is no longer pink; do not drain. Use liquid, and add water.

Place mixture in 5-quart slow cooker; stir in beans and remaining ingredients. Cook at HIGH 3 to 4 hours or at LOW 5 to 6 hours.

Notes: If you want to thicken this saucy chili, stir in finely crushed saltine crackers until the desired thickness is achieved.

Yield:  Makes 6 to 8 servings

Mama’s Spicy Easy Chili

Okay here’s our secret recipe. This might take longer, but all ingredients are fresh. Feel free to mix and match ingredients from these two recipes as time permits, and to fit your taste buds. The flavor is much better with all fresh ingredients. Here comes the spicy mama. The ingredients are slightly different; the cooking process is the same as above. Cook the first 5 ingredients in a large skillet.
