SUNSHINE MAIN MAMAS (& Mr. Tom, Uncle Diddy)

Me and my husband

I am a full time Mama of two who tries to find the perfect balance between juggling a career and a family. Fortunately, Mamahood has lead me to the finer things in life, such as enjoying every waking moment of my children’s youth.  Between myself and my husband Matthew, life has many curve balls to throw our way.  Somehow, between all of the chaos and routine, we have still found time to love and appreciate our family first and foremost.  My goal within this site is to unite Mamas across Florida and to share all of the triumphs, trials, and tribulations that Mamahood has to offer!

I was born in North Dakota (a nice place to be FROM) and lived in Colorado for the majority of my life.  My two three years in Florida have been the best, thus far.  The passion I feel for my community has since grown into a great love for my entire state.  I have found that there is a large common ground where Mamas can unite on several different levels. I am excited to provide an outlet where we can all come together. My Daughters’ names are Madilynne Kay (6) and, Hailey Rae (5).  All in all, everything I am, or have ever done, has led to me being a wife, mother and career woman.  This is what I love and this is what I hope to share (the good the bad, and the ugly) with all of you!

I have been married to my husband Robbie for seven years in August. We live in Helena, Alabama. We have been trying for a baby for almost six years now. You can read about our journey in the Mama Drama section of this site. I will hopefully be claiming the “MAMA” title with these fabulous ladies, soon. For now I am a first grade teacher for Shelby County Schools in Alabama.  I have been an educator for 10 years.  I am a graduate of West Alabama with my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.   I come from a family of educators. My mom has been a teacher for almost 40 years in Montgomery Alabama Public School System. My older sister has been teaching for 6 years off and on (between babies) and lives in Niceville, Florida. Lastly, my younger sister attends the University of Alabama and is pursuing her education degree. Education was always very important to my family and now educating is very important to me. For five years, I have mentored interns from The University of Montevallo. One who went on to be my co-teacher that next year and we have been co-teachers of first grade for four years now. Last year, I took my experience to the next level when I taught as an Adjunct Professor in education at the University of Montevallo. In my job, I work very closely with my students, parents, administrators, other teachers, interns, and professors. I hope that I can help anyone that has any type of question. I love what I do and I LOVE talking about what I do. So bring on the questions: Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question!

Look up the word “organized chaos” in the dictionary…there I am!!! I am 26, and I am married to the most handsome police officer I have ever laid eyes on. We have four boys! No, you do not need your eyes checked, its true FOUR BOYS!!! Two from his first marriage, and two from mine. I live in a world where a grasshopper in a cup is a hallmark card, a bucket of beetles is a bouquet of flowers, and a toilet seat in the downward position is enough to make me smile for a week! 🙂 We are expecting our first baby girl this August!!

Now the juicy details 🙂 One of has a crazy ex…hint, it is not my ex!! We have had some hysterical incidents with her, and some a tad less amusing. The story of how we became an item is a fantastic one. Friendship, attraction, and heart wrenching / life changing decisions, more on that to come.
Now the depressing…I lost my mom, who was an alcoholic a mere 3 weeks before having my second son. My father, also battles alcoholism on an ongoing basis. I battle the complications of being a mom, without a mom, and I am also dealing with a father who will be remarrying after only two years since my mothers tragic passing.
In my blogs I will share with you the trial and tribulations of being a blended family, the joys of a baby girl entering “testosterone zone”, the complications and effects of alcoholism, the coping of death, and how I managed to remain sane through it all!

Family, friends, faith, fitness and fashion: the loves of my life that keep me focused and sane!

I’m a small town corn raised Indiana girl who ventured out after graduating from Ball State University.  I studied Marketing and Fashion Merchandising.  A fun degree but has never been put to use… Thanks for putting me through school mom and dad!

LOVE brought me to Florida where I reside with my phenomenal husband Marcus, our 2 year old little lady Avaya and our gorgeous new baby boy Brody!

My childhood ambition was to be a mother.  While all the other kids in class were drawing pictures of amazing astronauts and brave firefighters I was showing off my raggedy stick figure family portrait..  Sometimes we just know our destiny.

I’ve worked as a nanny for 4 years and a mother/nanny for 2 years.  I have been fortunate enough to have a job where I can still raise my own child.  I hope to be there for my kids every step of the way.  Babies grow into toddlers, toddlers become kids and kids blossom in adults.  Life passes fast and I don’t want to miss a minute!

Married to my Soul mate, James for 2 years and counting!

Children: Ileana Marie (4months)

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida where I grew to love this beautiful sunshine state. I currently live in Broward County after my marriage to James. I am a 26 year old mama, wife, teacher, and student. Becoming a mother has been an amazing blessing in my life. After almost a year of trying to conceive, my husband and I were shocked to learn we were going to have a baby. After an intense twelve hour drug free labor, our beautiful baby girl was born on Halloween afternoon. I have been enjoying every moment in her little life ever since. It is so amazing to see how her smile each morning lights up my day.

I love reality TV, cooking shows, Ellen, and funny movies. I love catching up with old friends and my family on Facebook. My favorite thing to do on Friday night is watch movies, eat popcorn, and relax with my family. My hobbies include scrapbooking, taking a thousand pictures of my baby, hopefully soon getting back to enjoying the pool, and shopping.

I currently teach as an Elementary school teacher here in Broward. I received my B.A. Degree in Elementary Education with a TESOL Endorsement through Florida Atlantic University in 2007. I have since wanted to further my degree so I am working on my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. It has been a crazy experience to be a Masters student with a newborn but with an amazing supportive family anything is possible. I am looking forward to being a Mama on this site and sharing life’s finest memories and experiences with our Florida moms.

Life Stats
Happily Married to JT for 5 ½ years
Kids : Roman (4) and Marin (2)
Other than SAHM : NuSkin Distributor (www.nsoverview.com)
Time in FL: 6 ½ years

I’ve been asked many times, “so, Kara, what do you do?” My response, “I’m just a Mom – that’s my J.O.B.” But really, what DON’T I do?! I’m a housekeeper, a wound repairer, a health care consultant, a cook, a maid. I’m a pillow, sometimes a toilet (gross, I know), a teacher, a leader, a tough-love toting counselor, a cheerleader. I’m a plumber, a personal shopper, dog walker, taxi driver, bookkeeper, a confidant, a friend, a shoulder to cry on, and, in my kids’ eyes, an amazing singer! 😉 On top of all of this, I’m a wife, which entails all of the above and then some…

I’m a Jesus-loving, Scripture-breathing Woman with a love for Mama’s and their hearts. I’m a recovering Facebook addict, a quilter-in-progress and a hair bow making Queen, that will forever be 29! 😉 I love to eat Mexican food, snow ski in my home state of CO, prefer the phone over email and am eternally in the “beginning stage” of getting organized. I love people, I love their stories, and I love seeing where God takes them. I’m starting to realize that there’s more to me than even I see. So much more than I ever realized…

I am MOM, hear me Roar. I am exhausted…
