Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Barnum’s FUNundrum Sweeps Miami!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents Barnums FUNundrum is the breath taking,  jaw dropping, heart warming, unbelievable amazing, must see event of 2011.  Make this event the one you make time for, Mamas!!  This show will entertain all ages so bring Grandma and Grandpa too.  It is the perfect combination of old school tradition meets new and spectacular!  My family and I were on the edge of our seats the entire time at AmericanAirlines Arena!  FUNundrum will be in Miami January 7-17, 2011.  Your one and only SunshineMamas.com has a coupon code, for 25% Off, for all of you Mamas!  We also have two family four packs to give away with our Circus Trivia Game; enter today!  (Please see all additional ticket and schedule information below.)

My family and I arrived at AmericanAirlines Arena shortly before 10:00 a.m. where we were greeted by a member of the Feld Entertainment team.  For those of you who don’t know, Feld Entertainment will bring us over 200 performances this year, reaching over 1 million in attendance in 2011!  A whopping 250,000 of those attendees are in South Florida alone!   Feld Entertainment brings us all of our family favorites including Disney on Ice, Disney Live, Feld Motor Sports (which includes Monster Jam and Nitro Jam) and of course, the one, the only, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus.

We were fortunate enough to experience a special behind the scenes breakfast where we were able to meet members of the circus including the Ringmaster, a tight rope walker, and Miguel the super cool clown.  We also got the girls faces painted like clowns, colored pictures of elephants and even grabbed a HUGE goody bag!   I would like to take this opportunity to thank Feld Entertainment and the staff at AmericanAirlines Arena for their hospitality and making our trip to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents FUNundrum one of the most memorable days of our lives!!  The Greatest Show on Earth had me choked up almost the whole time with tears of sheer joy!!  We absolutely loved every second of this truly spectacular family event!!!

One hour before show time, families can meet the performers, get autographs, and see an amazing elephant that paints at the All Access Pre-show –FREE with a purchased ticket!  You can even enter to win the painting the elephant makes!  Then everyone takes their seats and The Greatest Show on Earth Begins…

As the lights went down, you could feel the excitement in the air!  We knew we were in a for a treat when they announced that the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey’s show consisted of 130 performers and weighed over 100,000 lbs. Anything of this magnitude had to be amazing…oh and amazing it was, Mamas!!

They started with a parade which included all of the performers and animals.  The energy in the arena was indescribable!  I was really impressed (like I could be anymore impressed at this stage in the game) when I noticed that all of the music was LIVE by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Band!  AWESOME!

Then onto the show.  We saw it all from women spinning in hoops to tigers performing magnificent tricks for some delicious treats!  The clowns were traditionally silly in most ways but modernly funny with tons of new tricks up their sleeves.  The performers were clearly hand picked from around the globe being the elite of the elite in each of their individuals areas.  Can you imagine three women fitting into a small glass box?  Or a strong man holding 1257.5 lbs. all at once?  Well the Body Benders and the Mighty Meetal captivated the audience as they demonstrated their mind blowing talents!  Next was the Globe of Steel, featuring the Torres Family, with not only four motor cycle riders, not five, but SEVEN riders in one tiny globe!!  It was simply breathtaking!!  This is just a few of the amazing performances from the almost 3 hour show…it was impossible to be anything but 100% intrigued by each and every second!!

Hailey’s favorite part of the show was the elephants!  How can you be anything but fascinated by these majestic animals?  Matt  and I were thrilled to learn that they have created the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation.  The CEC is regarded as one of the most successful Asian Elephant breeding programs outside of Southeast Asia with an unprecedented 20 elephant Births.  Ringling Bros. has also announced $300,000, since 2005,  to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Zoological Park supporting research projects on endotheliotropic herpes virus, the single greatest threat to Asian elephant.

All in all, this is a show you won’t want to miss!  Take your children to Ringling Bros. Barnum and Barnum & Bailey’s Presents Barnum’s FUNundrum!  It truly is the The Greatest Show on Earth!!  You will make lifelong memories!

  • Ellie's Mom says:

I can tell Ringling Bros Circus attention to your family and the special events really wowed and impressed you. But if you had seen what I have, you would feel differently. Once you see dozens of photos of Ringling trainers using ropes, bullhooks and Hot Shot to hook, jab and shock baby elephants to train them to perform circus tricks, you will never look at the circus the same way. The illusions they’ve created that they love their animals like family members is shattered, just because the circus provides food, shelter and care, doesn’t give them the right to beat and abuse their elephants to make them perform circus tricks. We love our family dog and we would never allow anyone to beat her with a fireplace poker and electric prod to make her learn to perform tricks.
Since Hailey and Matt like elephants they can watch elephants living in a natural setting on a live web cam at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. They can learn about Tara an Asian elephant who adopted a stray dog named Bella and they roam over thousands of acres together. No animals are ever abused there. http://www.elephants.com/elecam/

No discount or free circus tickets could ever entice my family to attend circuses with animal performers.

  • Tremdis says:

Nice pictures! This looks like so much fun! We will definitely be attending the circus! What a fun event. Thank you for sharing your pictures! Go Sunshine MAMAS!

  • I was more than wowed and impressed by Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey presents FUNundrum!! I had no idea that there was so much controversy regarding the elephants in the Circus…that is until I got a threatening letter from PETA and approved the comments from Ellie’s Mom!! That is the beauty of a blog, freedom of speech for all!! Check back Friday to hear about the letter I received from PETA!! Have a great week, Mamas!!

  • Ellie's Mom says:

I am using my right to free speech to enlighten Mom’s about animal abuse under the Big Top, for decades the circus industry has fooled families into believing that their elephants are well cared for, except now there is irrefutable proof that for decades Ringling has used torture training techniques on their baby elephants to make them perform in their circus shows and the beating continue for a life time. I thought if other Mom’s knew they would reconsider taking their families, even though going to the circus has been a childhood tradition.
Elephants are a mirror species of humans. The elephant’s capacity for sadness and grief is truly unique amongst members of the animal world, as it is particularly complex in terms of emotions. While most animals do not hesitate to leave the weak and young behind to die, elephants are distressed by the situation, and continue to show signs of this grieving for extended periods of time. One of the qualities that set elephants apart as animals (and evoke a sense of kinship to human beings) is that of emotion. Elephants are capable of sadness, joy, love, jealousy, fury, grief, compassion, distress and rage.

  • Elena says:

Interesting. I was unaware of the controversy as well. I have always been leery of zoos because of the unnatural setting but I know many zoos are animal activists and animal lovers to begin with. I suppose animal trainers are not always animal lovers and do whatever means necessary to make the animal submit. I would think that it depends on the individual training them and not the institution of the circus event itself. It is good to raise awareness so that coordinators will think twice before going to any extremes necessary to get the animal to entertain. Lori, this site is priceless as a venue to share in our experiences and opinions along with useful information. I would imagine that there are many wonderful people involved in this show who would never think of harming an animal be it elephant or otherwise. Video footage can be so condemning as we have no way of knowing if it was an isolated incident or not. Thank you for sharing in you fun-filled day, Lori. And thanks for raising awareness on this issue.
