“Florida Child…” By: Margaret Reynolds Broussard

Have you ever wished you had some sort of record of your family’s history?  A book or journal of sorts.  Well Mrs. Margaret Reynolds Broussard has made that possible for her family.

The first time I met Margaret Reynolds Broussard she was giving a presentation on Forever Florida at my church, Grace Lutheran.  I knew from the moment she started speaking that she was a women with great charisma.  She sparked something inside of me that longed to get to know her on a personal level!

Throughout her presentation, I was intrigued with Miss Margaret’s story and the fact that she and her husband had created Forever Florida after the early death of their son, Allen.  (Please see my blog Forever Florida; Excitement, Adventure, and Education all in one!)

I was blown away to find out that in addition to her amazing accomplishments with Forever Florida, Miss Margaret had even more to wow me!  She had written two books…“Florida Child in the Great Depression” and “Florida Child in World War II.”

Not only has she written two books to pass down to her children and her children’s children, she has published them and distributed them (free of charge) to all of the Florida Libraries!  (Check out our Library Link to find a Florida library near you!)  Needless to say Miss Margaret is one incredible lady! to find a Florida library near you!)

Her books are a reflection of her early childhood years in the 1930’s.  Ms. Margaret has truly captured what it was like growing up in Florida many years ago.  I thoroughly enjoyed the many stories of her and her family!

I was shocked at what a wonderful memory Miss Margaret has, some of her earliest memories are from when she was only two years old.  Remarkable!!

My absolute favorite story of all was when Miss Margaret met her match…the family rooster!!  The rooster chased Margaret as a small girl flying towards the back of her legs with its sharp spurs.  She ran around the house waiting for someone, anyone to open the door due to the fact that if she stopped to open it herself, that darn rooster would have attacked her!  Luckily he never caught her!

When reading this story, I laughed so hard I cried…the visual I got from Miss Margaret’s descriptive writing made me feel like I was watching the episode live and in action vs. reading it in a book!

This is a book for all ages…children will marvel at the way things used to be and adults will love the trip down memory lane!

If you would like to obtain a copy of both books, Florida Child in the Great Depression” and “Florida Child in World War II” please send your address and $25.00 to:
