More February Tips from Dr. Annie

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away.  There are so many ways to make February 14 special without spending a lot of money. Mamas, we all know that the last few years have been difficult economically for families, so we are smart to realize that love does  not equate to $ dollars.  Here are a few ideas to promote love and unity in your family.

  • Plan a special meal for Valentine’s Day.  Let your children help make the meal.  Think about the color red in foods.  Fruit gelatin, strawberries and cherries, spaghetti sauce and  red velvet cake with red sprinkles and heart decorations are some examples. Children love to help cook and decorate for special meals.  They learn many skills and learn to share love through helping and serving their family members.
  • Make a Valentine family wall.  Create a Valentine poster for each family member.  You can write the person’s name or place a picture on the Valentine. Invite family members to write positive words and phrases to describe each person.  Parents, ask your toddlers and preschool children to tell you the special things about Dad, brothers, and sisters. Write their ideas on each of the Valentines.  Examples: for Dad, “Makes awesome omelets!” or  for Sister, “love the way you draw!”

Most of all find a way to let your loved ones know that they are the best part of your life!
