YMCA Summer Camp Develops Youth’s Potential: Registration now open for summer camps; Miami

This summer the YMCA of Greater Miami is encouraging parents to give their kids a chance to be active and make friends at the Y’s camps from June 13th to August 19th in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.  Campers will gain experiences, develop essential social skills and create lifelong friendships, while enjoying summer camp adventures along the way.

The Y believes in making programming accessible to all by providing affordable experiences that provide children and teens with opportunities to discover who they are and what they can achieve.  At Y summer camps, children and teens participate in supervised activities that cultivate values, develop skills and nurture relationships. The programming at the Y summer camps give kids the chance to have fun, improve their health, learn new things and help them to reach their potential.

For the first time this year, the Y will also offer preschool camp at the all three Y preschool locations where kids will experience 11 themed weeks that will offer a variety of enrichment, special events, water play and guest entertainment. Other specialty camps include: Jr. Marine Biology Camp (at Virginia Key Beach and Key Largo), YMCA Zoology Camp, Dance Expression! Camp, Sports Camp, Leaders in Training Camp, Underwater Adventure Camp and Sanna Fine Arts Camp.

“The Y is committed to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, and our camp programs are one way that we provide the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive,” says Alfred Sanchez, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Miami. “When at summer camp, kids are given new responsibilities and they learn independence.”

According to camping experts, there are five reasons why children and teens should experience summer camp:

  1. FOR ADVENTURE: Summer camp is all about fun adventures with new friends, and at YMCA camps adventures are waiting for every child and teen.
  2. FOR NEW EXPERIENCES: Day camps are about learning outside of school, developing new skills, making friends and showing leadership.
  3. FOR PERSONAL GROWTH: While being out of the house and school, youth have a chance to develop confidence and independence by taking on new responsibilities and challenges.
  4. FOR NEW FRIENDSHIPS: Amidst the fun of games, songs, and swimming, campers meet new friends.
  5. FOR MEMORIES: Summer camp is an unforgettable experience that will give each camper memories that will last a lifetime.
